Top 5 | Websites for Interviews

I think I've mentioned before how much I love interviews, especially with random, not-so-famous people. The more relatable the better, in my opinion! The internet has become an amazing place to find tete-a-tete convos on an array of topics and, for your reading pleasure, I've made a first pass at my top five sites to read interviews on. (Disclaimer: this list is ever-evolving and subject to change!)

Click on to read my list ranked from good to great!

5. Into the Gloss

I'm not a huge connoisseur of beauty products, for me makeup is more a 'nice to have' than a critical part of my morning routine (in other words, I'm happy to skip out the house with moisturizer and nothing more than a dash of eyebrow pencil). However, I really enjoy how the interviews on this site extend to topics beyond beauty products, and instead into lifestyle, habits, philosophy and personal outlook on appearances.

4. Garance Dore

So, you may already know how I feel about her from a past post, but let me reiterate again how much I love Garance Dore. Like, a lot, a lot. The energy, exuberance, and enthusiasm for life that is so evident through her writing is only enhanced when she is recounting conversations with others. I especially love the video interviews that have been increasingly posted to the site. For a wide range of women, speaking on an even wider range of topics (my faves including personal development, entrepreneurship and self confidence), head to Garance Dore now!

3. Bird NYC

This blog was started by an Australian expat living in New York and working at Huge (aka mecca of all things excellent in design, advertising, branding, communications, etc.). The women interviewed are diverse, and offer up the incredible stories that exist beyond their stellar and intriguing careers. The one thing all these 'birds' have in common is their home, New York. Follow the link to learn about making it in the Big Apple, taking the right risks, and eating the best food in NYC!

2. The Great Discontent

The interviews posted on this digital/print magazine focus on creative individuals, though the nature of their creativity and the careers built upon it vary drastically. I will take a few guesses why 'discontent' is the featured word in this site's name. Because you will be anything but 'discontent' after reading a few interviews. Because no one should settle for simply content, there's a whole wide world out there and everyone should be shaking up their comfort zone. Because it's rare for any of the interviewees to state they are creatively satisfied, and content, for the moment. Perhaps that's the thematic link between all the lovely people featured? Read on and start formulating your best guesses about the 'discontent'!

1. Humans of New York

The top of the list, creme de la creme (in my humble opinion), is Humans of New York or, more affectionately known as, HONY. For sheer level of relatability, this site takes the cake. For reminding me of the beauty, delicacy, tenacity and love in every human being, this site is an all-reigning champion (thus far). For interviews that make my sappy, sentimental heart send tears to my eyes, HONY has an almost daily success rate. I follow on Instagram and appreciate the in-depth interviews broken into digestable pieces that span a few hours of posts. Most recently, HONY has been sent on expeditions around the world, interviewing Syrian refugees. This project of interviews is incredibly important in expanding the empathy and compassion that is within all of us.

What are your favourite sites to visit for awesome interviews featuring relatable people? Which ones did I miss?
